Decoding Mysterious GI Radiographs: Halloween Edition

Explore real gastrointestinal cases and gain practical skills on how to recognize obstruction, differentiate distention patterns, and formulate next diagnostic steps with confidence.

This Halloween, Radimal Case Rounds returns with a series of real-world small animal gastrointestinal radiology cases – each with an eerie surprise! 👻

🔍 This Session: When GI Gets Twisted – Interpreting Small Animal Radiographs

This session will be all about real-world imaging cases that challenge even experienced clinicians. We’ll follow the clinical story from history to imaging to interpretation, examining each case through both AI and board-certified specialist assessments.

You’ll get to guess the diagnosis as we explore how imaging features point to different causes of distention, what findings raise suspicion for linear foreign bodies or plication, and how interpretive differences can impact the clinical plan. Whether you're in general practice or emergency care, this session will help you interpret GI radiographs with more clarity, confidence, and maybe just a little less fear of the unknown 😱

Learning Objectives

  • Identify key radiographic signs of intestinal mechanical obstruction and linear foreign bodies in small animal patients.
  • Differentiate between various causes of gastrointestinal distention based on radiographic appearance.
  • Evaluate the diagnostic input from AI alongside radiologist interpretations to support clinical decisions.
  • Interpret imaging features that raise suspicion for linear foreign bodies and potential plication.
  • Formulate appropriate next steps for case management based on imaging findings and risk factors.
